At the Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program (SWCAP), we love our volunteers. Our volunteers are people that:
-
Are desperately needed. Volunteers are the “Community” in “Community Action.”
-
Build the kind of community in which we all want to live.
-
Enjoy getting out of the house, being physically, mentally and emotionally active.
-
Like to learn new things and meet new people.
-
Feel good about themselves as they learn new things and help the people in their own community.
-
Enjoy meeting and working with like-minded people.
-
Enjoy the feeling that they are helping people in their community.
At SWCAP, we especially ask for volunteer support in these areas:
-
Board of Directors
-
LIFT Transportation
-
Food Pantries
-
Thrift Stores

LIFT Transportation
Volunteer to be a LIFT driver. LIFT drivers set their own schedule, and use their own vehicle to give those in need a ride to a needed appointment. The most common is giving someone a ride to a medical appointment. SWCAP takes care of all the scheduling. You choose which rides you want to take. SWCAP pays 50¢ per mile – from the time you leave your driveway until the time you return to your driveway. Being a LIFT volunteer driver is a great activity for people that like to:
- Get out of the house.
- Be independent and set their own schedule.
- Feel the satisfaction of helping people in need in their community.
- Earn a little extra money.

- Stock and inventory food products.
- Assemble food packages for distribution.
- Help people coming to the food pantry find what they need.
- Show people in your community that you care.
SWCAP welcomes volunteer support at our affiliated food pantries in these communities:

- Dodgeville
- Boscobel
- Darlington
- Muscoda
- Monticello
- Arena
- Plus for SWCAP Pop-Up Food Bus

Every day is a treasure hunt at the SWCAP Thrift Store. The SWCAP Thrift Store is a little like the old-fashioned “general store.” It has a little of everything. When you volunteer at the SWCAP Thrift Store, you’ll do things like:
- Receive incoming donations
- Prepare donations for the sales floor.
- Sort and rack products.
- Help customers find what they need.
- Staff the check-out counter.
- Help people in your community that are on a tight budget find the things that they need in their life.
