Mortgage Assistance

Mortgage Assistance advises homeowners on options to remain in their homes, including payment assistance with other housing expenses. Funding is currently arranged through the Wisconsin Help for Homeowners program (WHH). Homeowners who are behind on housing-related expenses and need help catching up on payments for a fresh start may be eligible to participate in this program.

The following housing expenses may be paid up to the current month through the Wisconsin Help for Homeowners Program:

  • 1st and 2nd mortgages
  • Mobile/Manufactured home loans
  • Land contracts and Lot rent
  • Property taxes
  • Homeowner’s insurance
  • HOA fees
  • Utilities of water, sewer, electric, gas, and internet

How do I qualify?

  • You own your home, located in Wisconsin. Land contracts, mobile/manufactured homes (on land or in a lot), single-family homes, duplexes, and condos are also eligible.
  • You need help with housing-related expenses for your primary residence.
  • Your household has experienced a qualifying COVID-19 impact.
    • Working fewer paid hours
    • Loss of wages
    • Job loss
    • Increased household costs due to household changes caused by COVID-19
  • Your household income is 100% or less of the County Median Income.
  • Your housing-related expenses are past-due, and you’re now able to continue making payments if your accounts are paid current.

The Wisconsin Help for Homeowners application is available online. Please visit homeownerhelp.wi.gov and click on "Apply Now" to access the application portal. If you prefer a paper application or need assistance completing the application, please call 608-943-6909 ext. 431 or email whh@swcap.org.

SWCAP Supportive Housing services are available in the Wisconsin counties of:

  • Grant

  • Green

  • Iowa

  • Lafayette

  • Richland

Factoid

In the first six months of 2022, SWCAP Mortgage Assistance helped 24 families in southwestern Wisconsin catch up on their mortgage payments.

Deadline Extended

Please note that the Wisconsin Help for Homeowners program deadline has been extended to December 30, 2022. If you had previously started an application, you will be able to complete and submit your application.
