SWCAP’s Women, Infants and Children Nutrition program (WIC) provides nourishing food, nutrition counseling, help with breastfeeding, and connections to other community services for pregnant and postpartum women, infants and young children.
WIC helps you buy the foods you and your children need to stay healthy. The WIC foods in your monthly food package are specifically chosen to promote good health, growth, and development. You get an eWIC card to buy the WIC approved foods that are listed in the WIC Shopping Guide (English or Spanish).
Depending on your situation, WIC may provide:
Breastfeeding support, breastfeeding counseling, and a breast pump if needed.
Nutrition counseling for you and your family.
A WIC Food Card to buy specific foods that helps keep you and your family strong and healthy, such as:
- Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, Eggs, Cereal, Whole Grains, Tofu
- Peanut Butter, Dried or Canned beans and peas
- Fresh, Canned and Frozen Fruits & Vegetables and 100% juice
- Baby foods and infant formula
Checks to spend on fruits and vegetables at farmers’ markets in the summer
Height and weight checkups
Lead and iron testing for your child
Referrals to doctors, dental providers, and public health nurses for immunization and prenatal care along with many other programs to benefit your family.
To qualify for WIC, you need to be income eligible and be in one or more of these groups:
Pregnant women
Breastfeeding women 0-12 months postpartum
Non-breastfeeding women 0-6 months postpartum
Infants
Children under the age of 5 years.

SWCAP WIC has clinic sites in Dodgeville, Darlington, Shullsburg, Richland Center, Prairie du Chien, and Gays Mills.
